Urban mobility: Knorr-Bremse secures its largest ever multi-system order in Chinese metro history

  • Knorr-Bremse and Chinese train producer CRRC have sealed a major order for braking and entrance systems for Beijing’s new metro line 17, as well as heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) for line 19
  • In total, Knorr-Bremse will deliver systems in the mid double-digit million-euro range for 78 trainsets with a combined 624 cars to CRRC subsidiaries Changchun Railway Vehicles and Sifang in Qingdao
  • In addition, Knorr-Bremse Suzhou’s RailServices unit is to modernize a train of the city of Shenyang’s metro line 2, and Knorr-Bremse’s MERAK-Jinxin HVAC joint venture has received overhaul certification for CRH5G high-speed trains

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, has won its largest ever multi-system order for Chinese metro. The company will be delivering braking and entrance systems to equip Beijing’s new metro line 17, as well as HVAC systems for the city’s line 19.

With braking system deliveries having started in the third quarter of 2020 and continuing to the end of 2023, Knorr-Bremse will provide technologies worth a mid double-digit million-euro sum for 78 trainsets. Manufactured by Chinese train producer CRRC, the rail vehicles will be operated by Beijing MTR.

Cologne Public Transport Authority commissions Alstom and Kiepe Electric to supply 64 trams

The Cologne Public Transport Authority (Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe AG, KVB) has signed a contract with the manufacturer consortium Alstom and Kiepe Electric for the supply of 64 low-floor trams. The order for the new Citadis type trams with special adaptations for the German market is worth 363 million euros. Alstom’s share amounts to 60% of the total value of the contract.

Regional mobility: Knorr-Bremse to supply braking systems for more than 120 Alstom regional trains

  • Knorr-Bremse and Alstom extend contract to supply braking systems for Coradia Lint and Coradia iLint regional trains until 2025
  • The contract, in the low double-digit million-euro range, covers braking systems for 129 trains, with options for up to 350 more
  • The global market leader has already supplied braking systems for more than 1,000 vehicles from the earlier Coradia Lint generation – helping to make regional transportation safer, more efficient and more available

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, and Alstom have agreed to extend their existing framework contract for 129 Coradia Lint and Coradia iLint regional trains. Knorr-Bremse will supply KBGM-P braking systems at least until the end of 2025, thereby making an important contribution towards the continuation of the Coradia platform.

Dr. Jan Michael Mrosik appointed as Chairman of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG

The Supervisory Board of Knorr-Bremse AG today unanimously appointed Dr. Jan Michael Mrosik (56) as Chairman of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG for a period of three years from January 1, 2021.

The Supervisory Board also decided to extend the appointment of Dr. Jürgen Wilder, member of the Executive Board and responsible for the Rail Vehicle Systems division, by five years, thus setting the course for long-term and future-oriented alignment of this division.

Knorr-Bremse DETC expands capacities with a new plant and continues in-depth cooperation with Dongfeng

  • Knorr-Bremse DETC is building a new plant to meet the strong demand

  • High-level talks with Dongfeng reached agreement on strategic cooperation on Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Highly Automated Driving (HAD)

Knorr-Bremse DETC Commercial Vehicle Braking Technology Co., Ltd. (Knorr-Bremse DETC) recently held the groundbreaking ceremony at a 50,000 m2 site in Dongfeng Industrial Park where a new plant is to replace the company’s three separate existing factories. The aim is to expand manufacturing capacity, improve efficiency and reduce production costs with a view to strengthening cooperation with Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle.

High-level talks with the new top management of Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle were held to discuss further cooperation. Knorr-Bremse DETC is a joint venture between Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking systems and a leading supplier of other rail and commercial vehicle systems, and Dongfeng.

Knorr-Bremse expands its stake in Rail Vision: Capital increase in start-up for obstacle detection and classification

  • Knorr-Bremse acquires an additional 19.8% of Israeli start-up Rail Vision, giving it a 36.8% stake in the company's share capital
  • Strategic follow-on investment forms basis for continued partnership in the development and integration of electro-optic sensor systems including object detection and classification for rail vehicles

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, has subscribed a capital increase in the Israeli company Rail Vision. Knorr-Bremse has acquired an additional 19.8% of the shares for USD 10 million.

As a result, Knorr-Bremse now holds a 36.8% stake in the start-up, which specializes in sensor technology and obstacle detection based on artificial intelligence and deep learning.

Electric power replaces diesel: Solingen public transport company invests in buses with IMC technology from Kiepe Electric

  • Stadtwerke Solingen (SWS) places first order for 16 emission-free 12-meter trolleybuses with IMC® technology from the Kiepe Electric and Solaris consortium
  • New battery trolleybuses will replace diesel vehicles and also operate on sections without overhead wires

In the city of Solingen, they are playing a key role in the electrification of the entire bus fleet: battery trolleybuses with In Motion Charging (IMC®) technology from Kiepe Electric, a subsidiary of Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles. A consortium between Kiepe Electric and Solaris, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of buses and trolleybuses, will supply 16 emission-free Solaris Trollino 12-metre trolleybuses with IMC® technology to Solingen's public transport authority from the end of 2021. They will replace diesel-powered buses and use battery power to cover extensive route sections without overhead wires.

Greater availability: Knorr-Bremse and Bombardier extend service agreement for several hundred locomotives throughout Europe

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, has signed an extension of its comprehensive service agreement for TRAXX locomotives with Bombardier Transportation. Up to the end of 2025, Knorr-Bremse RailServices will be responsible for overhauling the braking systems of several hundred TRAXX rail vehicles maintained by Bombardier Transportation Service.
